Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams received a warm welcome on Saturday as he attended the Antigua and Barbuda Horticultural Society’s Annual Fair and Flower Show at Agave Gardens, the organisation’s peaceful and picturesque headquarters.
Sir Rodney was guided through the floral exhibition by the Society’s President, Mrs. Barbara Japal. Inside, he was greeted by member Ms. Jackie Ferracho and treated to an impressive display of floral artistry, featuring intricate botanical arrangements created by local talent. The Governor-General commended the Society for its continued work in promoting environmental stewardship, gardening, and the beautification of the nation.

During his walk-through, Sir Rodney visited several plant stalls, including booths by Denise’s Plants and Lorilyn Walker, both of whom presented a colourful range of ornamentals, succulents, and tropical foliage. The bustling atmosphere reflected the increasing national interest in home gardening and sustainable horticultural practices.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the awarding of prizes in the Floral Design Competition. Mr. Frankie Pereira accepted two awards on behalf of Lorraine Davis, whose entries earned top honours across multiple categories, including the prestigious Best in Show for her piece titled “Let’s Pollinate.”

Ms. Sandra Patrick of Exclimations was also recognised, receiving the award for Best Booth for her standout creativity and exceptional presentation.

At the close of the event, the Governor-General thanked organisers, exhibitors, and visitors for an enjoyable and inspiring afternoon, noting that the annual fair continues to play an important role in strengthening community ties and celebrating local creativity.
