Antigua and Barbuda’s top-producing travel advisors from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Caribbean were celebrated in grand style on Friday evening during a black-tie awards gala at Sandals Grande Resort.

More than 70 travel advisors were honoured at the second annual Black Pineapple Awards, hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA). The event brought together senior government officials, including Their Excellencies Sir Rodney and Lady Williams, alongside representatives from the Tourism Ministry, ABTA, and the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) to extend gratitude to the industry partners who help sustain the nation’s leading economic sector.

ABTA Chief Executive Officer Colin C. James delivered a message anchored in gratitude, reminding attendees of the profound national impact they make through their work.

“Tourism is not just an economic pillar—it is the heartbeat of our people, our communities, and our aspirations for the future,” James said. “When you champion this country’s tourism and send visitors to our shores, you are championing our culture, our experiences, and our hospitality. You help support families, empower small businesses, and uplift an entire nation.”

He emphasized that every visitor brought to Antigua and Barbuda represents more than revenue; it represents opportunity, hope, and progress.

Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez, Director of Policy and Planning St. Clair Soleyn reflected on the importance of the award’s symbolic name.

“The black pineapple is more than a fruit. It is a symbol of our heritage, our hospitality, and the unique authenticity of Antigua and Barbuda,” he said. “This gala takes its name from a national treasure—something nurtured with care, shaped by our environment, and renowned throughout the world for its exceptional quality. It is only fitting that we use this symbol to honour those whose work embodies the same spirit of distinction.”

Soleyn highlighted tourism’s unwavering influence on global development, noting that the sector continues to generate jobs, foster cultural exchange, and create opportunities that shape communities.

“Here in Antigua and Barbuda, we see this every day,” he added. “Our twin-island nation continues to rise as a premier destination, driven by the strength of our partnerships, with airlines, cruise lines, travel advisors, digital creators, investors, innovators, and champions like the awardees in this room.”

The evening concluded with heartfelt applause for the travel advisors whose dedication continues to elevate Antigua and Barbuda on the global stage.
