The National Solid Waste Management Authority has completed a cleanup campaign in Yorks (from Fort James across Anchorage Road to Mckinnons pond to around Old Runaway) that removed 11.8 tons of accumulated waste and improved public safety conditions across a wide swath of the community.
This was part of the recent edition of the “Love Where You Live” campaign which wrapped up on December 4th.
According to the Authority, cleanup crews addressed multiple problem areas during the campaign. The operation collected bulk waste that had accumulated across public spaces, private homes and vacant lots, while also clearing overgrown trees and bushes that were restricting roadways. Teams worked to restore safe and hygienic conditions across 44 abandoned lots containing debris and vegetation.
The campaign also addressed vehicular hazards, with 33 vehicles removed from the area by December 4th. Tree cutting and vegetation control measures were conducted throughout to improve visibility and public safety while enhancing the neighbourhood’s overall appearance.
The Authority indicated it is expanding the initiative beyond Yorks. “The Authority is making its way to Point and central St. John’s to make these improvements, and encourages residents to put out their waste out for timely collection and to maintain the pristine environment that would be left,” they stated.
Officials are urging residents to maintain the improvements by properly disposing of waste. The Authority is asking community members to call 562-2019 to arrange collection of any additional bulk waste that accumulates, rather than placing items on curbsides or outside homes.
The cleanup represents part of the Authority’s broader mission of “Working In Partnership for a Cleaner Antigua And Barbuda.”

Wowwww that’s a lot of waste. I hope this is an ongoing project cause it seems like people always have waste
Finally, some real action. Twelve tons is no joke! Big respect to everyone who showed up and worked to clean up the Yorks area.
And then bam they will litter again in the same place to have the cycle continued.
