Plans are in the works for the City as the National Solid Waste Authority is making moves closer to the area.

Just over the weekend, they completed work in Yorks and are now moving swiftly through the Villa and Point communities.

As that collection continues, extra emphasis will be placed on St. Johns.

“We’re going to do a deep clean, and we’re going to be doing power washing. We’re going to be collaborating with Central Board of Health to do some disinfection and spraying just like how we do when it’s Carnival time. So, our teams are going to be out, cleaning out the gutters, washing down the sidewalks, everything.

So, within the city center of St. John’s, because that sector runs from Dickenson Bay Street all the way over to Independence Drive and comes down Vivian Richards Streeteverything within that space is going to be getting an extensive deep clean and some assistance from Central Board of Health for areas that are high centered with persons peeing, the vagrants, just clean, just washing, washing, washing, disinfecting the place,” General Manager of the NSWMA Indira James Henry explained during a recent interview on state media.

The initiative is aimed at improving the physical appearance of Antigua and Barbuda while addressing long-standing health and security risks.

The clean-up drive is expected to continue in other areas as the ministry expands its scope in the coming weeks.
