Dominica President Sylvanie Burton speaking to Express Tribune

President Sylvanie Burton is facing intense diplomatic and domestic pressure following recent remarks in which she accused the United States of “bullying” Caribbean nations through its efforts to disrupt drug trafficking and sanctioned oil distribution in the region.

Burton’s comments, widely interpreted as aligning Dominica more closely with Venezuela and China, come amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Caribbean.

Her remarks drew swift criticism from foreign policy analysts and regional observers who say the President has placed Dominica on a collision course with one of its most critical partners, the United States.

  2. She doesn’t even know her role. No wonder we are still without an opposition leader. She can’t keep her ceremonial house in order, but wants to advise other governments on their political happenings.

    • She refused to be bullied by the US. Good for her, and because she is speaking out now she is been blamed! Really!

  3. President Burton is 100% correct. She asked that they sit at the table and have discussions. Since when discussion a less violent approach is a bad thing? Am I missing something here? Let cool heads prevail, who knows perhaps both countries can come to an amicable agreement without loss of lives.

  7. It’s time the Caribbean speaks with one unified voice rather than being caught between superpowers.
