Dominica President Sylvanie Burton speaking to Express Tribune
President Sylvanie Burton is facing intense diplomatic and domestic pressure following recent remarks in which she accused the United States of “bullying” Caribbean nations through its efforts to disrupt drug trafficking and sanctioned oil distribution in the region.
Burton’s comments, widely interpreted as aligning Dominica more closely with Venezuela and China, come amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Caribbean.
Her remarks drew swift criticism from foreign policy analysts and regional observers who say the President has placed Dominica on a collision course with one of its most critical partners, the United States.

This is risky diplomacy. Leaders need to balance international relationships, not pick sides so bluntly.
I totally support her message. I see nothing with her stance
Im.bearing she made that statement longtime. But now or then she made it
You need to listen to what she said again the title was click bait but she didn’t actually side with Venezuela she said America needs respect other country sovereignty and not use force instead they should use discussion
She doesn’t even know her role. No wonder we are still without an opposition leader. She can’t keep her ceremonial house in order, but wants to advise other governments on their political happenings.
Sometimes we just need to know when to STFU!!!
She refused to be bullied by the US. Good for her, and because she is speaking out now she is been blamed! Really!
u must be an ass
President Burton is 100% correct. She asked that they sit at the table and have discussions. Since when discussion a less violent approach is a bad thing? Am I missing something here? Let cool heads prevail, who knows perhaps both countries can come to an amicable agreement without loss of lives.
100%
But how the president is saying something different from the PM, nuh. lol Charles Savarin would neever do that
Sometimes a tee tee wee might talk sense when two sharks are about to fight ,nevertheless one of the sharks might decide to retaliate so it would have been better for the tee tee wee to reman quiet
Singing for her breakfast lunch and supper
It’s time the Caribbean speaks with one unified voice rather than being caught between superpowers.
President Burton recognizes that what the U. S. is doing against Venezuela is Criiminal and Cold Blooded. Trump is Drunk with the power of his office and the idiot Americans cannot control their mad man leader.
It is not about drugs It is about Trump thinking that he is the savior of the colonialists who Chavez and Maduro chased out of Venezuela, when they refused to sell 51% of their oil interests in Venezuela, to the people of Venezuela.
Congratulations to you President Burton.
Do not bend to the Bully Pulpit. America is dying. Trump is accelerating her demise. By the time the American people rein him in, the damage will be past the point of no return.
Well said. It is obvious that trump is after Venezuela’s oil. Who does he think he’s fooling? Trying under the cover that he’s trying to eradicate drug smuggling. All of the Caribbean needs to push back against trump and his regime.
Are we prepared for the fallout if the U.S. decides to respond? Important question.
She’s not saying anything offensive about the USA. She’s just echoing the sentiments of more than 70% of the world’s population and the USA better take heed before the the triggers world war 3 starting within the Islands of the seas
This is a bold stance. But is it the right battle to pick with the U.S.? Time will tell
HER ROLE IS SYMBOLIC. She should have just kept quiet
I’m not sure if the title made most views bias or they didn’t read pass the title and listened to the video but she said nothing wrong, it wasn’t even a bold stance it’s what CARICOM been saying keeping the Caribbean a zone of peace and the US should respect other country’s sovereignty
Well said, thank you
Well said Madame President.
