The Antigua and Barbuda Chess Federation (ABCF) successfully concluded its Winter Chess Tournament 2025 on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the Catamaran Hotel, Falmouth Harbour. The event delivered a full day of competitive play, national pride, and community engagement.

Held in the restaurant hall overlooking Falmouth Harbour, the tournament benefited from a bright and welcoming setting that complemented the spirit of focused competition. The venue underscored the growing recognition of chess as both a respected sport and an educational discipline in Antigua and Barbuda.

Registration began at 8:00 a.m., with the first round commencing at 9:15 a.m. Players competed in two sections, Rated and Unrated, bringing together experienced competitors and emerging talent. Three rounds were completed by midday, followed by light refreshments for players and supporters.

The Federation was honoured by the presence of Their Excellencies the Governor General, Dr. Sir Rodney Williams, Her Excellency Lady Sandra Williams, and their son Brent, whose attendance highlighted the national importance of chess in promoting critical thinking, strategic decision-making, and youth development.

The tournament continued with three additional rounds, culminating in the final rankings and award presentations.
His Excellency the Governor General delivered remarks to the gathering, emphasizing the role of chess in fostering discipline, resilience, foresight, and character, particularly among young people. He also noted the importance of continued advocacy for the recognition of chess as a mind sport within the national sporting framework.

The President of the Antigua and Barbuda Chess Federation, Dr. Hannibal M. Fleming, formally announced the results, after which medals, trophies, book prizes, and gifts were presented.
