Prime Minister Gaston Browne welcomes Zimbabwe’s newly appointed ambassador, His Excellency Cecil Chinenere
Antigua and Barbuda has formally welcomed Zimbabwe’s newly appointed ambassador, His Excellency Cecil Chinenere, as diplomatic ties between the two countries continue to advance.
According to State Media, the ambassador presented his credentials to Governor General’s Deputy Sir Clare Roberts during a ceremony held on Tuesday, followed by high-level discussions with government officials.
Talks with Foreign Affairs Minister E. P. Chet Greene focused on expanding bilateral cooperation, with proposed agreements in areas including agriculture, health, technology and information sharing. These initiatives could be finalised later this year.
During the engagements, Ambassador Chinenere also informed officials that Zimbabwe has nominated a candidate for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term and requested Antigua and Barbuda’s consideration. The matter is expected to be referred to Cabinet.
The ambassador further appealed for Antigua and Barbuda’s support in advocating for the removal of unilateral economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe. State Media reported that both Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Foreign Minister Greene expressed a willingness to advocate on Zimbabwe’s behalf on the international stage.
