The Ministry of Education has begun reimbursing more than one million dollars to parents and guardians who had already paid fees for their children to sit the May/June 2026 Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) examinations.
Director of Education Clare Browne said in an interview with State Media that the Ministry has completed reimbursements to secondary schools, which are now returning the funds directly to parents.
He explained that some delays were unavoidable, as several parents were overseas during the holiday period. With the new school term approaching, Browne assured that those who have not yet received their refunds should expect payment soon.
“This is a period when some people travelled, but now that everyone is returning and school is about to resume, parents who have not yet been refunded can look forward to receiving those funds,” Browne said.
The reimbursement process fulfils a commitment announced by Prime Minister Gaston Browne during his December budget presentation, in which he confirmed that the government would assume responsibility for CXC examination fees going forward.
The measure forms part of the government’s broader strategy to ease inflationary pressures on households, while ensuring that no student is prevented from sitting national and regional examinations due to financial hardship.

Where are the funds coming from? It’s crazy how we see a lot of high figures but they will still say the country has no money….. hmmmm
Its coming from the same CIP that Merika trying to kill
This is a welcome relief for many parents, especially with the cost of living so high.
Parents will appreciate getting this money back, especially during back-to-school season.
Education should never be limited by a family’s financial situation.
This takes real pressure off parents who are already stretched.
Parents just want the refunds to be completed as quickly as possible.
