Former educator Genevieve Smith has been accorded an official funeral by the government of Antigua and Barbuda.
She received the honor in recognition of her outstanding and lifelong contribution to community service, education, and national development.

Smith devoted decades of her life to the upliftment of others.
Her unwavering commitment to service extended far beyond the classroom, as she was widely known for her compassion, generosity, and dedication to the welfare of vulnerable individuals and families within her community. Through her selfless acts, mentorship, and advocacy, she touched countless lives and leaves behind an enduring legacy of service and humanity.
“Teacher Gen” passed away in December leaving the Potters community in mourning.
She served as a teacher at the Potters School and was also a devoted Sunday School instructor at the Potters Zion Moravian Church.
Residents say her influence extended far beyond the classroom; she was a mother, sister, mentor, and friend to countless individuals.
Smith is also the grandmother of All Saints West MP and Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Anthony Smith Jr., who frequently speaks about the strong family values that shaped him.

Condolences to the family. Sounds like she was a very well respected lady
Potters will forever remember the woman who helped shape its children and strengthen its values
She planted seeds that will continue to grow for generations. A true example of servant leadership.
An official funeral is fitting for a woman who served quietly, faithfully, and selflessly for decades.
Teacher Gen lived a life of purpose. This honour reflects the depth of her service and the love her community had for her.
Potters has lost a pillar, but her legacy will live on in every student she inspired and every life she touched.
