House painting initiative in Swetes Village
Seven homes across the Swetes community were transformed this week as fresh coats of paint breathed new life into the village, uplifting families and reinforcing the power of community spirit.
The initiative grew out of an earlier effort to construct a home for Ms. Arlene Wilson, a project that organisers say became far more than originally planned. As work progressed, the outpouring of appreciation, kindness, and encouragement from residents left a lasting impression on the team involved.

Moved by that response, the group decided to give back in a way that aligned with their mission improving living spaces and enhancing dignity through safe, welcoming homes.
The painting exercise saw carefully selected colours used to brighten residences throughout the area. The paint and colour choices were provided with the support of Rawdon Turner, Mary Baltimore, and Lamin Newton, whose contributions helped turn ordinary houses into spaces filled with renewed pride and joy.
Strong praise was also extended to the A Team from His Majesty’s Prison, whose workmanship and professionalism were credited for the high-quality finish delivered throughout the project.

Organisers say the experience reinforced a simple but powerful message: when communities give from the heart, the impact multiplies.
As work continues in villages across the country, the Home Advancement Programme for the Poor and Indigent (HAPI) says it remains committed to transforming lives and strengthening communities throughout Antigua and Barbuda.

This is beautiful to see. Sometimes a fresh coat of paint does more than change a house, it lifts an entire community.
When government programmes and community effort align, everyone benefits.
Community love
A coat of paint won’t fix everything, but it can restore hope. And hope goes a long way.
Hope the residents appreciate that
