Rotary Club generously donates 500 laptops to ABCAS

The Rotary Club of Antigua has made a significant investment in tertiary education with the donation of 500 laptops to the Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies (ABCAS), strengthening students’ access to essential digital tools in an increasingly technology-driven academic environment.

The handover ceremony brought together members of the Rotary Club, ABCAS leadership, and government representatives, including Daryll Matthew, Minister of Education, Sports and the Creative Industries. Minister Matthew welcomed the donation, praising Rotary’s sustained commitment to advancing education and equipping students with the resources needed to succeed.

Speaking at the presentation, Rotary Club of Antigua President Elisa Graham underscored the importance of digital access in modern learning. “Digital literacy is now a fundamental life skill, as critical as reading and writing,” Graham said. “Through our Education Through Technology Programme, Rotary is ensuring that students in Antigua and Barbuda are not left behind in an increasingly digital global society.”

ABCAS President Dr. E. Jonah Greene highlighted the practical impact the donation will have on students, noting that many face challenges completing coursework due to limited or inconsistent access to computers. She explained that the laptops will be distributed through a structured loan system, designed to ensure fair access while supporting improved academic engagement and performance across the institution.

The initiative is part of a long-standing collaboration with the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club of Washington State, whose continued support has helped sustain the Education Through Technology Programme over several years. The partnership reflects Rotary’s global approach to service, connecting local needs with international goodwill.

The Rotary Club of Antigua reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with educational institutions and government partners to strengthen national development through education, emphasizing that investments in students today will shape the country’s future workforce and leadership.

The Rotary Club of Antigua is a member of Rotary International, a worldwide service organization dedicated to humanitarian service, education, and community development.

  1. Very good initiative. I really think ever child should have or have access to a laptop or computer
