It’s Cervical Cancer Awareness Month and the Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) Prevention Unit along with the Ministry of Health is collaborating to host a Cervical Cancer Symposium.
Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that forms in the tissues of the cervix, primarily caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infections.
Symptoms may include abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, and pain during intercourse. Prevention strategies include regular Pap tests, HPV vaccinations, and practicing safe sex.
If detected early, cervical cancer is highly treatable, with treatment options including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.
It is for these reasons why symposiums like this one are so important.
Health officials are encouraging women to sign on.
The event will be held under the theme “Your Health, Their Tomorrow: Protecting Families from Cervical Cancer & Other HPV-related Cancers” and highlights a commitment to empowering communities with knowledge and practical strategies for prevention and early detection.
It will be held on Monday January 26 via Zoom from 2:45pm – 4:45pm with three presenters.
Counsellor Koren Norton of KN Consulting, Senior Nutrition Officer Susan Gardener and Dr. Cherrie Tulloch, Head of the Cervical Cancer Elimination Program.
