Tason Jones entered guilty pleas to drug charges on Monday after police discovered four and a half pounds of cannabis in his possession, while his co-defendant walked free after prosecutors dropped all charges against her.
Jones admitted guilt to possession with intent to transfer and possession with intent to sell when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel. The cannabis, seized on January 16th, carries an estimated value of EC$27,000.
Jones had initially faced four charges alongside co-defendant Noemi Paula: possession of cannabis, possession with intent to transfer, possession with intent to sell, and being concerned with the supply of cannabis. Both defendants were represented by attorney Warren Cassel during Monday’s proceedings.
Paula pleaded not guilty to all charges, prompting the prosecution to withdraw the entire case against her. The not guilty charges against Jones were also dropped following his admission of guilt to the two intent-related offenses.
Chief Magistrate Emanuel granted Jones bail set at EC$35,000, requiring EC$5,000 in cash along with two sureties. Under the bail conditions, Jones must report to Grays Farm Police Station three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. He has also been ordered to surrender his travel documents, and authorities have placed a block at all ports of entry to prevent him from leaving the jurisdiction.
Jones is scheduled to return to court on February 24th for sentencing.
