Unlicensed Teen Fined $8,000 After Valley Road Crash
An 18-year-old from Point has been fined $8,000 after taking his father’s unlicensed vehicle and crashing it while driving without a licence.
Jayson Jarvis appeared before the Magistrate’s Court after police said he was speeding along Valley Road near Valley Church with a female passenger when he lost control of the vehicle. The car reportedly struck an oncoming SUV before crashing into a tree.
The passenger sustained minor injuries in the collision.
Investigators told the court that Jarvis did not have a driver’s licence and had taken the vehicle without his father’s knowledge. Police also confirmed that the vehicle was unlicensed and uninsured at the time of the crash.
Jarvis pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving without a driver’s licence, driving an unlicensed vehicle, and driving without insurance.
Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel ordered Jarvis to pay the fines within one year or face imprisonment.

Parents and guardians must be more vigilant.
What if he had killed someone?
Driving fast with a passenger and no license, that’s pure recklessness. He’s lucky nobody was killed.
Speeding, no licence, no insurance, took the car without permission, that’s a whole list of bad decisions.
Some parents know what their unruly children are doing. The law needs to be more harsh with the younger generation today. They are lawless and the law protects them to a great extent.
This incident is a serious reminder of how dangerous irresponsible driving can be, especially among young people. An unlicensed driver, an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle, speeding, and a passenger involved, it’s a miracle that no one was seriously hurt or killed. The fines are heavy, but the consequences could have been far worse.
Too many young drivers underestimate how quickly a bad decision can turn into a life-altering event. Taking a vehicle without permission and driving without a license shows a complete disregard for the law and for public safety.
When they do these nonsense they don’t only put themselves at risk but other road users lives as well.
