Drugs seized

Police have intercepted another shipment of cannabis at the Customs Cargo Shed at V. C. Bird International Airport, marking the second such seizure within a 24-hour period.

The discovery was made around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 30, during a joint operation involving officers from the Narcotics Department and the Customs Enforcement Unit.

Authorities found a cardboard box containing eleven vacuum-sealed packages filled with vegetable matter resembling the controlled drug cannabis.

The packages were taken to Police Headquarters, where they were weighed and confirmed to total approximately thirteen pounds. The cannabis has an estimated street value of EC$78,000.

The latest seizure follows a similar operation carried out on Thursday, during which more than thirteen pounds of cannabis were confiscated at the same facility. That haul was estimated to be worth EC$79,200.

Police say investigations into both incidents are continuing.
