Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment, Charles Fernandez, has shared the Government’s strategic vision for Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism sector in 2026, placing strong emphasis on sustainability, targeted infrastructure investment, and people-centred growth.
In a video message, the Minister stressed that the focus for the coming year is not simply on increasing visitor numbers, but on ensuring tourism development remains balanced, inclusive, and sustainable.
“Our focus for 2026 is not simply expansion, but smart, balanced and inclusive development — growth that protects our natural environment, strengthens our communities, and delivers long-term value for the people of Antigua and Barbuda,” Minister Fernandez stated.
Among the key priorities outlined for 2026 is continued hotel and resort development aimed at enhancing accommodation capacity, service quality, and international brand visibility. Major projects highlighted include the Marriott Resort, Moon Gate Development, Nikki Beach Resort and Spa, and the Nobu Hotel.
Cruise tourism is also expected to remain a major pillar of the sector, bolstered by the opening of the country’s new cruise terminal. The facility is positioned to accommodate increased cruise calls while creating expanded opportunities for local businesses, artisans, and creatives.
Air access continues to underpin tourism growth, with the US$50 million runway rehabilitation project at V. C. Bird International Airport scheduled for completion in September 2026. The Minister noted that this upgrade will further strengthen Antigua and Barbuda’s connectivity and competitiveness.
Sustainability initiatives, meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) tourism, and workforce development were also identified as core priorities, reinforcing the destination’s long-term resilience and people-first approach.
Minister Fernandez further reassured tourism stakeholders that Antigua and Barbuda remains open for business and open to the world. He expressed appreciation to industry partners for their collaboration throughout 2025, noting that continued partnership will be essential in building a tourism sector that is sustainable, inclusive, and focused on delivering shared national benefits.

Tourism also connects the world to our country, this is our chance to show Antigua and Barbuda at its best, responsibly.
