Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has secured a third consecutive election victory in the Barbados General election held yesterday, leading the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) to a clean sweep of all 30 seats in the House of Assembly, according to state broadcaster CBC Barbados early Thursday.

The emphatic result cements Mottley’s dominance in national politics and underscores her broad support across the island. In one of the most closely watched races, opposition leader Ralph Thorne was unseated as the BLP tightened its grip on Parliament for another five-year term.

Speaking to supporters on election night, Mottley framed the victory as a mandate for social and economic transformation. “Our mission first and foremost is to stop poor people from being poor and to remove injustice wherever it exists to create opportunities for people,” she declared.

The 60-year-old leader, widely regarded as one of the Caribbean’s most influential political figures on the global stage, also pledged to safeguard the country’s democratic institutions. Her comments came as Barbados recently marked 75 years since universal adult suffrage, a milestone in the nation’s democratic development.

Throughout the campaign, the BLP emphasized continued focus on economic stability, managing cost-of-living pressures, and strengthening Barbados’ voice internationally. The opposition, meanwhile, criticized the government over security concerns and infrastructure challenges, with Thorne arguing that policy should be more tightly focused on domestic priorities.

Barbados, the easternmost Caribbean nation with a population of approximately 283,000 people, now enters another parliamentary term without an elected opposition presence. As celebrations subside, attention will shift to how Mottley’s administration translates its sweeping mandate into measurable progress for the island.
