Repeat offender gets prison time for robbing tourist

Junior Emmanuel

Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel has put a man behind bars for two and a half years after he robbed a British cruise visitor in the heart of St. John’s.

Junior Emmanuel of Federation Road, who has multiple prior convictions for similar crimes, attacked the elderly tourist on Charles Henry Lane near the Cathedral Church on November 29, 2025.

The victim had disembarked from her cruise ship and was exploring the city when Emmanuel struck from behind, snatching her fanny pack with enough force to break the strap and knock her to the ground before fleeing with her belongings.

The bag contained more than $1,400 EC in valuables including a passport, cellular phone, and cash.

The convicted robber has been in custody since December 1, 2025, and that time will be credited toward his sentence.
