Prime Minister Gaston Browne appearing on Point TV’s Browne and Browne show

Prime Minister Gaston Browne says he is seeking $2.5 million in defamation damages from Progressive Radio, and its talk show hosts Hilary ‘Croife’ Emmanuel and Joan ‘Juicy Joan’ McEwin, instructing his attorney Warren Cassel to deliver a pre-action letter on February 14.

The defendants have been given a statutory period of 21 days to respond before the matter proceeds to court.

In addition to Progressive Radio, which is owned and operated by the opposition United Progressive Party, the Prime Minister announced plans for additional legal action against its former political leader, Harold Lovell as well as American attorney Martin DeLuca, seeking millions in damages from his law firm.

Senior Counsel Anthony Astaphan, part of the legal team representing Browne in the DeLuca matter, said the lawsuit targets what he described as a sustained campaign of defamation that has damaged the Prime Minister’s reputation domestically and internationally.

Browne says he is seeking damages in the range of $10 million with the settlement proceeds from the lawsuit used to fund the ‘Gassy Dread Studio’, a music facility promised to his constituents.

On Friday, ‘Croife’ Emmanuel called into the ‘Morning Juice with Juicy Joan’ show and challenged the Prime Minister to proceed with legal action, saying to “bring it on.”

  1. The Prime Minister’s of Antigua and Barbuda reputation domestically and internationally, is the lowest of the low. In the gutter. He has bought that position into disrepute. So what the hell is he talking about? He is behaving like DT over in the US. Say anything about him and he threatens with court action. The man need s to get over himself. He is absolutely the worse PM Antigua and Barbuda has ever had the displeasure of having!

  3. Too petty!

I guess he is free to say whatever he wishes, and everyone else should mute when it comes to the PM.
I am just tired of all these insignificant issues that grave the spotlight.
