HAPI initiative paints Five Islands home

The government’s Home Assistance Programme for the Indigent (HAPI), in collaboration with the Social Protection Board and private-sector partners, has launched its most ambitious home improvement project to date in Five Islands.

The initiative focuses on upgrading a residence that houses 25 people, making it the largest and most complex undertaking in the programme’s history.

HAPI Coordinator Inspector Veldon Raggette described the project as both challenging and deeply meaningful, noting that improving living conditions for such a large household requires significant coordination and resources. He emphasized that the goal goes beyond structural repairs to ensuring dignity, privacy and functionality for every resident.

A major component of the renovation will be the expansion and outfitting of bathroom facilities. Kings Casino, a long-time supporter of HAPI, has committed to covering the full cost of bathroom supplies and materials, reinforcing the programme’s strong partnership with the corporate community.

Raggette also acknowledged the contribution of volunteers and inmates from His Majesty’s Prison, who are gaining construction skills while assisting with the project. He credited continued government support, including that of Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Social and Urban Transformation Minister Rawdon Turner, as key to the programme’s success.

In a separate gesture, HAPI and the Social Protection Board marked Valentine’s Day by delivering assistance to a family in Willikies. Social Protection Board Coordinator Mary Baltimore said the initiative reflects the agencies’ commitment to restoring hope and providing practical support to vulnerable families across the country.

Officials say the programme continues to expand its reach through coordinated public-private partnerships aimed at strengthening communities and improving living standards nationwide.
