Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph at 1000 Smiles dental clinic
Minister of Health Sir Molwyn Joseph has praised the Sandals Foundation and Great Shape Inc. for partnering with the Ministry of Health to deliver a major dental outreach initiative that provided more than USD $1.5 million in free care to residents of Antigua and Barbuda.
The “1000 Smiles” dental clinic, held at the Multipurpose Cultural and Exhibition Centre from January 19 to 30, delivered services valued at approximately USD $1,577,834 over two weeks.

A total of 3,575 individuals received free dental care and oral health education. During that period, 8,481 procedures were performed for 1,596 patients, including cleanings, extractions, fillings, root canals, fluoride treatments, sealants, and X-rays.
In addition to clinical services, 7,561 oral hygiene kits were distributed, and 2,707 children received oral health education. The initiative was supported by 121 volunteer dental professionals.
Sir Molwyn noted that while the programme’s success reflects strong public participation, it also highlights the need for more affordable dental care locally. He indicated that the Government will move to strengthen and expand sustainable dental services within the public healthcare system.
The Minister also acknowledged that the initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 on access to healthcare and builds on previous outreach efforts conducted in collaboration with nonprofit and faith-based partners.

They did a great job and deserve the commendation
