Roadworks on Four Major Highways to Disrupt Traffic This Week

Motorists travelling across Antigua are being advised to prepare for delays this week as ongoing road rehabilitation works continue along four of the island’s main highways.

The Ministry of Works, through its Project Implementation Management Unit (PIMU), has issued a public advisory noting that single-lane traffic will remain in effect in several areas to facilitate infrastructure upgrades under the Government’s Second Road Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project.

According to the Ministry, works along Valley Road will include road markings as well as continued concrete and drainage improvements in the vicinity of Jolly Harbour and Sugar Ridge. Activities are scheduled to begin daily at approximately 8:00 a.m.

On Old Parham Road, crews will continue drain cleaning and shoulder repairs, also commencing around 8:00 a.m. each day.
Meanwhile, motorists travelling along Sir Sydney Walling Highway should expect road markings, concrete and drainage works, and shoulder repairs to proceed during the same hours.

Anchorage Road is also included in the schedule, with road marking works set to continue daily from 8:00 a.m.

Flag personnel will be stationed at active work sites to direct traffic, and drivers are being urged to obey all instructions to ensure safety, particularly as heavy-duty equipment will be operating in close proximity to passing vehicles.

The Ministry has emphasized that businesses along the affected corridors will remain open despite the construction activity.

Both the Ministry of Works and contractor C.O. Williams Ltd. have expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and are encouraging stakeholders and commuters to adjust their travel plans to accommodate possible delays.

Officials say the upgrades form part of broader efforts to enhance road safety, improve drainage infrastructure, and modernize the island’s transportation network.
