A High Court judge has handed down a six-year prison sentence to a man who fired at a moving vehicle on one of St John’s busiest streets.

Damien Joseph was convicted of shooting with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after Justice Ann Marie Smith presided over a judge-only trial in which Joseph had no legal representation. The guilty verdict followed evidence that on the evening of May 30, 2022, Joseph opened fire on Kelvin Constant as he drove along High Street.

Constant was at the wheel of a pickup truck at approximately 7:30 that evening when he came upon Joseph and his cousin travelling on foot in the opposite direction. As the two men drew level, Joseph discharged a firearm at the lower section of the windscreen.

The bullet tore through the glass, destroying a speaker tweeter, before coming to rest inside the cabin of the truck, narrowly missing Constant, who immediately dialled 911.

Joseph will now serve six years for the offence.

  1. So… Damien Jospeh, gets 6 years for firing one bullet and Karim Warner, THE POLICE SERGEANT, gets 1 year for firing like 12 bullets?? On top of that, I thought the maximum penalty for such offences is like 2 years. Oh so I heard after Karim’s Case. Hmm talk about corruption in the justice system….

    • I was literally just reading and saying the same thing. Why should the police get less sentence? 12 bullets is what you called and intent to murder! He wanted to kill them. But this man just shatter a windscreen and get 6 years

    • six years is not enough. He could have killed someone. or two innocent people. can’t just fire shots just because you in your feelings

  2. That’s what they suppose to get. Some way or the other we will get rid of guns

  3. That is very reckless and careless. What if the bullet had hit an innocent bystander.
