THC-Infused Products Seized in Twin Police Operations

Law enforcement officers have seized dozens of THC-infused products during coordinated search warrant operations carried out on Friday in two separate areas of St John’s.

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda confirmed that the exercises were conducted by officers attached to the Narcotics Department, K-9 Unit and Customs Enforcement Unit.

In the first operation, which took place around 2:00 p.m. at a premises along Sir George Walter Highway, officers reportedly discovered and confiscated 45 packs of THC-infused gummies. One individual was taken to Police Headquarters for questioning as investigations continue.

A second search was later executed at a property on Old Parham Road. During that operation, officers seized an additional 11 packs of THC by-products. Police have not yet indicated whether anyone was detained in connection with that discovery.

THC, or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, is the principal psychoactive compound in cannabis. Edible products infused with THC, such as gummies, can produce mind-altering effects when consumed. These effects may include euphoria, impaired concentration, altered perception and delayed reaction time. In some cases, users may also experience anxiety or paranoia.

Authorities have cautioned that edible THC products can pose particular risks because their effects are often delayed, increasing the possibility of overconsumption. Adverse reactions may include nausea, dizziness, confusion, increased heart rate and impaired judgment.

Police are reminding the public that the possession, distribution and use of controlled substances without lawful authority remain offences under the laws of Antigua and Barbuda.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
