The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) has released its 2025 “By the Numbers” snapshot, offering a compelling overview of the hospital’s impact on the nation from January through November last year.
The figures tell a powerful story of demand, dedication and delivery. During the reporting period, the country’s main public hospital recorded nearly 30,000 emergency room visits and facilitated approximately 24,000 outpatient appointments. In the maternity ward, 828 babies were born — each one marking a new chapter for families across Antigua and Barbuda.
In addition, more than 720,000 diagnostic and treatment services were carried out, underscoring the institution’s central role in safeguarding public health.
Hospital administrators say the statistics reflect more than activity levels — they represent human connection. Behind every emergency visit, clinic consultation and surgical procedure is a patient, a family and a healthcare professional committed to care.
Leadership at SLBMC emphasized that while the numbers demonstrate the scale of operations, the true strength of the institution lies in its staff — from doctors and nurses to technicians, porters and administrative teams — who continue to serve on the frontline of the nation’s healthcare system.
As the leading tertiary healthcare facility in Antigua and Barbuda, SLBMC remains the backbone of advanced medical services in the twin-island state. The hospital provides comprehensive care across multiple specialties, including emergency medicine, maternal and child health, surgical services, and diagnostic imaging.
Guided by a patient-centered approach, the institution says it remains committed to improving access, strengthening clinical excellence, and ensuring that every individual who walks through its doors receives compassionate, high-quality care.
For SLBMC, the message behind the data is clear: every number represents a life supported, a crisis managed, and a community strengthened.
