Syrian National Hospitalised After Stabbing Incident

Police have taken a 16-year-old boy into custody as investigations continue into a stabbing incident that left another teenager seriously injured at the West Bus Station on Friday afternoon.

According to police reports, officers responded to the scene at approximately 2:30 p.m. on February 27 after receiving information that a male had been stabbed multiple times during an altercation at the busy transportation hub.

The victim, 16-year-old Jakeem Benjamin, sustained several puncture wounds to the left side of his abdomen and was rushed to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre for emergency medical treatment. Authorities say his injuries are serious, but he remains in stable condition.

Investigators later arrested a 16-year-old male from Bendals in connection with the incident. The suspect is currently assisting police with their inquiries as officers work to determine the circumstances that led to the stabbing.

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has appealed to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or possess information that could aid the investigation to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or anonymously reach Crimestoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).

Police say investigations are ongoing and additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

  1. Shouldn’t witnesses be questioned as soon as police arrive at the scene? Bus station on a Friday is teeming with people.
