Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has pledged full support to the families and business owners affected by the devastating fire that swept through sections of Roseau in the early hours of Monday morning.
“I stand in full solidarity with the families and business owners affected by the devastating fire in Roseau last night, which damaged several buildings,” Skerrit said in a statement. “My thoughts are especially with those whose source of income and livelihoods have been affected. Please know that you are not alone.”
The Prime Minister assured those impacted that fire officials would continue assessing the damage and that the government would work closely with affected stakeholders to support recovery efforts in the days ahead.
The blaze erupted along King George IV Street, damaging several commercial establishments and forcing the closure of one of the capital’s leading pharmacies.

He commended the swift and coordinated response of fire officers, noting that their efforts were instrumental in preventing the blaze from spreading further along the busy commercial strip.

“The fire officers did a very, very good job in confining the fire,” Prosper told DBS Radio. While a full damage assessment is still underway, he indicated that the financial losses are expected to be significant. “It’ll run in a lot of money, a lot of money,” he stated.
Fire crews remained on site throughout Monday morning carrying out mop-up operations and launching investigations into the cause of the blaze. Authorities have urged members of the public to avoid the affected area as cleanup activities continue.
Jolly’s Pharmacy announced that its Roseau branch will remain closed until further notice. However, customers were assured that Jolly’s Mega at Fond Cole and Jolly’s Pharmacy in Portsmouth remain fully operational. Other affected businesses are expected to reopen once safety clearances are granted.
Deputy Fire Chief Prosper also indicated that the Fire and Ambulance Services Department intends to engage business owners in Roseau with updated fire prevention guidance aimed at reducing the risk of similar incidents in the future.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations remain ongoing.
“At times like this, our response must be practical, compassionate and united,” Skerrit added, offering prayers for strength and comfort for all those impacted by the tragedy.

Prayers up to the Commonwealth of Dominica and all those affected. Must be a very shocking news to wake up to, especially for the business owners and their families or shareholders. May God provide for them to build back up. Great works to the fire department case it could’ve been worse looking at these pictures.
Wasn’t there a fire in our capital the other night? Saying this to say, it may not have been bad like Dominica but it could happen to any nation!! Solidarity is what matters, it’s important that we all stick together and be our brother’s keepers! Yesterday Dominica today could be Antigua or even Barbados. Prayers up for DCA
This is real devastating. Commendation to the fire fighters who battled the blaze. Very heroic. This is a really big loss for may people
