Man Pleads Guilty to Possession of Magazine Found in Speaker

What appeared to be an ordinary wireless party speaker turned out to be something far more sinister when Antiguan police stopped a man along Simon Boulevard last week and made a discovery that led to an immediate guilty plea.

Alex Joseph, 33, of Nutgrove, had picked up a brown paper box from a shipping agency on February 27th.

Officers who intercepted him on the roadside were acting on suspicion — and their instincts proved correct.

After unscrewing the housing of the speaker found inside the package, they uncovered a 30-round 9mm Pro Mag magazine carefully wrapped in multiple layers of paper.

Joseph appeared before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel on Tuesday, entered a guilty plea, and was remanded into custody. He is expected back in court Thursday, when sentencing is anticipated.
