The former parliamentarian passed away on February 20, 2026, after a period of illness. His death prompted an outpouring of tributes from political leaders, colleagues, and members of the public, many of whom praised his humility, integrity, and dedication to the people he served.

In announcing the decision, Cabinet noted Lake’s longstanding contributions to public life and acknowledged the impact of his work both in Parliament and within the Cabinet.

Officials say the decision to grant him an Official Funeral reflects the nation’s appreciation for his years of committed service.

Further details regarding the funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the Ministry of Social Transformation in the coming days.
