Water Tank in Liberta damaged after collision

Residents of Liberta are being urged to exercise caution after a historic water tank located near the Grace Hill Moravian Church sustained significant structural damage following a collision with a motor vehicle.

The warning was issued by Member of Parliament for St. Paul, E.P. Chet Greene, who said the tank — believed to be more than 100 years old — has been left unstable and poses a potential danger to the public.

According to Greene, the incident has been reported to the Public Works Department, and requests have already been made for urgent repairs to address the damage. However, until the necessary remedial work begins, the structure remains a serious safety hazard.

Authorities are advising residents to keep a safe distance from the tank and to avoid approaching, touching, or leaning on the structure under any circumstances. Officials warn that there is a real risk the damaged tank could collapse, potentially causing serious injury or death.

Parents, guardians and teachers are also being encouraged to speak with children about the dangers of playing near the area.

The public is being asked to remain vigilant and cooperate with safety advisories while authorities work to address the situation.

  6. A structure that is over a century old should already have been under regular inspection and maintenance. Incidents like this show why monitoring historical infrastructure is so important. When something this large becomes unstable, it can quickly turn into a life-threatening hazard.
