The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has begun training election workers as preparations intensify for the upcoming St. Philip North by-election scheduled for Monday, March 16.
Training sessions started on Monday at the Glanvilles Community Centre and are being led by Returning Officer Avonella Benjamin.

The programme is designed to prepare election day personnel with the knowledge and procedures needed to effectively manage polling stations and ensure the voting process runs smoothly. Participants include presiding officers, poll clerks, customer service representatives and other polling staff who will play key roles during the by-election.
Supervisor of Elections Ian S. Hughes stressed that proper training is essential to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.

“Training is a critical component of the electoral process. By ensuring that every election worker understands their responsibilities and the procedures they must follow, we strengthen the integrity, transparency and efficiency of the voting process.
The Commission is committed to ensuring that the St. Philip North By-Election is administered to the highest standard,” Hughes said.
During the sessions, election workers will receive instruction on polling station operations, voter identification procedures, ballot handling and counting, as well as the proper completion of official election documentation.

Officials say the training also places strong emphasis on professionalism, transparency and accuracy to ensure the by-election is conducted in accordance with established electoral laws and procedures.
