Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs, E.P. Chet Greene, held a bilateral meeting on Tuesday with Andreas Kakouris, Ambassador and Special Envoy for Multilateralism for the Republic of Cyprus, as both countries explored opportunities to deepen diplomatic and development cooperation.

During the meeting, Greene reaffirmed the strong and longstanding friendship between Antigua and Barbuda and Cyprus, highlighting the shared commitment of both nations to multilateral cooperation, respect for international law, and the advancement of sustainable development.

Greene also extended best wishes to Ambassador Kakouris on his candidature for the Presidency of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (2026–2027), emphasizing the need for strong multilateral leadership to champion the priorities of small and vulnerable states.

He noted that issues such as climate action, resilience, and sustainable development remain critical for small island developing states.

The discussions also touched on Antigua and Barbuda’s preparations to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2026 from November 1–4, 2026 in St. John’s.

Greene highlighted plans for a high-level side event focused on Blue Finance and Innovation, which will explore opportunities for sustainable ocean development, marine conservation, renewable ocean energy, and investment in the blue economy.

Recognising Cyprus’ strong maritime heritage and expertise in the blue economy, Greene welcomed opportunities for collaboration, including potential technical support and participation from Cypriot institutions in the upcoming policy dialogue.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and deepening engagement within international and multilateral forums.

Greene was accompanied at the meeting by Karen-Mae Hill, High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, and Chantal Phillip.
