No alcohol sales during polling hours for St. Philip’s North by-election
The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) is reminding businesses and residents that the sale or distribution of alcohol is strictly prohibited during polling hours for the St. Philip North By-Election 2026.
According to the Commission, the restriction falls under the Representation of the People Act (Cap. 379), which governs election procedures in Antigua and Barbuda.

Under Section 27 (1) of the Act, no intoxicating liquor may be sold, offered for sale, or given away at any licensed premises located within the constituency where an election is taking place. The prohibition applies for the entire duration between the opening and closing of the polls on polling day.
Electoral officials say the measure is intended to maintain order and ensure that voters are able to cast their ballots in a safe and controlled environment, free from the influence of alcohol.
The law also carries significant penalties for violations. Section 27 (2) states that any person found contravening the regulation commits an offence and may face a fine of up to EC$3,000, imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both upon summary conviction.
ABEC is urging all licensed establishments and members of the public within the St. Philip North constituency to comply fully with the law to ensure a smooth and lawful electoral process.
