More than 150 women gathered in Antigua and Barbuda on March 8 to mark International Women’s Day with a day dedicated to empowerment, reflection and connection at the 4th Annual VIP Women’s Conference.

The event, hosted by author, counselor and consultant Koren Norton, took place at the John E. St. Luce Conference Centre and brought together women from diverse backgrounds for a brunch-themed experience focused on flourishing, confidence and meaningful relationships.

The conference opened with an unconventional introduction by Dr. Monica Osborne-Stevens. Through a written presentation accompanied by a visual demonstration, three women symbolically planted a seed in a pot and nurtured it with water, illustrating the importance of care, patience and support in personal growth. The demonstration helped set the tone for a day centred on empowerment and self-development.

One of the standout moments of the conference came from guest speaker Tasheka Lavann, who delivered a deeply personal address. Lavann reflected on her journey of healing, resilience and determination, sharing how she overcame challenges that threatened to derail her path. Her message to the audience was clear: never allow others to define your limitations and remember that even in difficult moments, you are still enough.

The conference also featured remarks from Jamilla Kirwan, who spoke on the theme of “Connections.” Kirwan, an independent senator, mother of two and recent cancer survivor, highlighted the critical role of support systems in both personal and professional life. She credited the women who stood beside her throughout her cancer battle, attending chemotherapy sessions and helping to care for her children when needed, emphasizing the power of community and the importance of having a strong support network.

The final guest speaker was Jamaican engineer and content creator Juliet Bodley, who addressed the topic of confidence. Bodley shared her personal struggles with self-doubt and the challenges she faced in both her professional and personal life. Through growth, healing and renewed purpose, she eventually found her voice and built a platform that connects with women worldwide through content creation and speaking engagements, including TEDx presentations.

Many attendees were visibly moved by the powerful stories shared throughout the day, with several speeches drawing standing ovations from the audience.

The conference also featured entertainment from Antiguan performers Zahra Airall, Karen Brooks and Kelly Richardson, whose performances added energy and inspiration to the programme.

Norton and her team say they remain committed to creating spaces where women can network, collaborate and recharge through empowerment sessions. Organizers have already begun planning for the 5th Annual VIP Women’s Conference, which is expected to take place in 2027.
