The Antigua Public Utilities Authority is warning residents that a disconnection notice currently circulating on social media and messaging platforms is false and malicious.
In a statement issued Saturday, the authority said the document being shared online falsely claims that specific communities across Antigua and Barbuda will face utility disconnections.
APUA clarified that the notice did not originate from the authority and should not be treated as legitimate.
According to APUA, while the company did issue its routine monthly reminder to customers with accounts that are 30 days or more overdue, that notice did not name or target any particular communities. Officials emphasized that the areas referenced in the circulating message are not part of any official disconnection listing.
The authority condemned the creation and distribution of the fake notice, warning that such misinformation can cause unnecessary alarm among customers.
APUA also urged individuals responsible for producing or sharing misleading information to stop immediately.
Customers are being reminded to rely only on APUA’s official communication channels for verified updates, including the authority’s website, verified social media pages, and its official WhatsApp channel.
The utility company said it remains committed to maintaining transparent communication with the public and thanked customers for their continued cooperation.
