Repair work is in progress to replace a damaged portion of a fiberglass transmission line at Crabbs. The damaged portion will be replaced with HDPE pipes.
The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has advised customers across several communities that repair work is ongoing on a damaged section of a 20-inch fibreglass transmission line, resulting in continued water service disruptions.
In an update issued Friday, March 20, 2026, APUA said the affected pipeline is being replaced with more durable HDPE pipes, with teams currently engaged in preparing and fusing the new lines.
While temporary supply is being provided from alternative sources, including Barnacle Point and Delaps facilities, APUA warned that customers in some areas may experience shorter service periods or reduced water pressure due to the distance from these sources.
The utility company acknowledged the inconvenience caused, noting that the current supply arrangements may not meet normal service expectations, and expressed appreciation for the public’s patience during the repair process.
APUA indicated that work is expected to continue throughout the day, with an estimated completion time later tonight.
A wide cross-section of communities served by the Crabbs Reverse Osmosis (R.O.) plant are affected. These include Weirs, North Sound, Gunthorpes, Fitches Creek, Pigotts, Paynters, Lightfoot (East and West), Herberts, Parham, All Saints, Freeman’s Village, and sections of Buckley Line, among several others. Areas along Old Parham Road, Cassada Gardens, Friars Hill Road, and parts of St. John’s are also impacted.
APUA has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the issue as quickly and safely as possible and is urging customers to conserve water while repairs are underway.
