The Police Administration is deeply concerned about the increasing engagement of youths in immoral and illegal activities, particularly gambling in public spaces.
On Thursday, March 19, during routine mobile patrols, officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Task Force conducted extensive sweeps across various communities in St. John’s and its surrounding areas.
At roughly 12:45 p.m., police responded to reports of suspicious behavior at the East Bus Station Terminal, where a group of young men, allegedly wearing school uniforms, were seen participating in what seemed to be gambling under a shelter.
Upon the police’s arrival, the individuals fled the scene on foot.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of two school bags, which are now in police custody as investigations continue.
The Police Administration regards this situation with utmost seriousness, especially since it involves school-aged youths. Such actions not only violate the law but also expose young individuals to environments that could adversely affect their growth and future.
The police strongly urge parents, guardians, educators, and the broader community to play a more proactive role in supervising and guiding young people’s activities.
Additionally, the Police Administration announces that patrols will be intensified, particularly in areas where youths are known to gather after school hours.
The police will remain vigilant and proactive in tackling any unlawful or inappropriate conduct.
Public cooperation and support are crucial in addressing this escalating issue. Anyone with information regarding such activities is encouraged to reach out to the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or contact the Crimestoppers anonymous hotline at 800-TIPS (8477).

These young people don’t care about their future, and they have no one to guide them. A lot of them left home in the morning in their school uniforms and never showed up at school. A lot of older adults, men especially, are encouraging these school boys to skip school and hang out with them, smoking, drinking, and gambling, too.
Go And Look In All These Casinos In Town And Other Parts Of The Island And See If You See Young People In Them.. It’s All Big People, Especially Grown Women!!!
I too am concern. I went to a cage location the other day and saw a barely 18 year old child in there. I knew I had to exit
