Governor General Sir Rodney Williams has presented the top prize to Renaut Stitelmann, winner of the McIntyre Mini Globe Race, during an official ceremony held in Antigua and Barbuda—the race’s designated start and finish point.
The presentation marked the culmination of a remarkable global sailing challenge that saw fifteen solo sailors depart from the National Sailing Academy and navigate a demanding journey around the world before returning to Antigua to complete the race.
Sir Rodney praised the significance of the event, noting that Antigua and Barbuda played a central role in hosting and supporting the historic competition. He commended race founder Don McIntyre for his vision and dedication to making ocean racing more accessible through grassroots initiatives like the Mini Globe Race.
Highlighting the broader impact, the Governor General said the event reinforces Antigua and Barbuda’s reputation as a premier sailing destination, capable of staging world-class maritime events with excellence.
The Mini Globe Race has drawn international attention to the twin-island nation, further cementing its place on the global sailing map.
