Single-Lane Traffic Continues on Three Major Roadways Amid Ongoing Repairs

Motorists travelling along several of the country’s major roadways are being urged to expect continued single-lane traffic as infrastructure repair works move forward across key routes.

The Ministry of Works’ Project Implementation Management Unit (PIMU) has advised that traffic restrictions will remain in place along Sir Sydney Walling Highway, Valley Road North and Old Parham Road while crews carry out a series of safety and rehabilitation works scheduled to begin daily from about 8:00 a.m.

Along Sir Sydney Walling Highway, workers are continuing with guardrail installations, road markings, junction improvements and shoulder repairs. Asphalt patching is also planned where material supplies are available. Similar upgrades are underway on Valley Road North, where crews are focusing on road markings, guardrail adjustments and asphalt repairs as part of the ongoing effort to improve driving conditions along the corridor.

On Old Parham Road, construction teams are carrying out road marking works as well as concrete and drainage improvements, again depending on the availability of materials.

Officials say the use of single-lane traffic arrangements is necessary to allow heavy-duty equipment to operate safely while keeping vehicles moving through the work zones. Flag persons have been stationed along the affected routes to guide motorists through the areas.

Drivers are being encouraged to proceed with caution, follow instructions from traffic controllers and expect some delays during the daytime construction period.

Despite the ongoing works, authorities have emphasised that businesses along the affected roadways remain open and accessible as the Ministry continues its programme of infrastructure improvements across Antigua and Barbuda.

  1. Start roadworks at the busy morning hours is just dumb. Look at the traffic when there is no road works, now imagine that traffic on a single lane road. Chupzzzz

    • Yall are the same ones who will complain and say that the government is not fixing the roads. You have to have a little bit of pressure if you want comfort. Let the people do what the have to do so we can have better road networks. Antiguans just complain about everything under the sun, bunch of nonsense people.
