Government Signs Deal With China to Repave North Sound Racetrack, Boost Safety

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has signed a contract with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to repave the North Sound Drag Racing Track, in a move aimed at significantly improving safety at the popular motorsport venue.

Located east of the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, the North Sound racetrack has become a major hub for racing enthusiasts, drawing large crowds of spectators and families. Its growing popularity has prompted the need for urgent upgrades to ensure the facility can safely accommodate increasing use.

Cabinet has identified the rehabilitation of the track as a priority, with plans focused on resurfacing the racing strip and introducing enhanced safety measures to better protect both drivers and patrons.

Officials say the project is part of a broader push to strengthen recreational infrastructure across the country, while promoting safe and controlled environments for motorsport activities.

The upgraded facility is also expected to improve the overall experience for users, while supporting youth engagement and the continued development of motorsport in Antigua and Barbuda.

The Government maintains that sustained investment in public recreational spaces remains critical to national development, ensuring they are safe, modern, and accessible for all.

  1. So let me get this straight! We do not put money behind things that will reduce crime, better the lives of the true locals in the country, or enhance infrastructure that is built to last, but sound stages, speakers, performing arts, racing and cruises are more important than healthcare, housing and education for true born Antiguans (not passport ones).

Oh yes, the country is run by the ABLP and the puppets that keep voting for them – be warned and take heed.
