Tensions flared in Parliament moments ago when government members and some of the audience staged a walkout during the Opposition’s parting remarks on former minister Sir Molwyn Joseph.

Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin, Sir Molwyn Joseph and Melford Nicholas remained seated while every other government member exited.

The dramatic exit came as Opposition Leader and Member of Parliament for All Saints East and St Luke, Jamale Pringle, broke from the usual tone of tribute, opting instead for a sharply critical assessment of Joseph’s tenure.

While other speakers offered praise, Pringle made it clear he would not follow suit, declaring he would “speak frankly” about what he described as a record marked not by distinction, but by arrogance.

He acknowledged infrastructural developments under Joseph’s watch, but insisted they were far from flawless and should not be shielded from scrutiny. Pringle pointed to what he sees as misplaced priorities, highlighting significant spending on a public cemetery while key institutions like the hospital continue to face challenges.

“I will not be hypocritical about it,” he said, pushing back against any expectation of a softened or ceremonial send-off.

The exchange underscored deep political divisions in the House, turning what is typically a moment of unity into a visibly contentious farewell.
