Antigua and Saint Martin sign agreement to strengthen air connectivity
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has signed a Letter of Intent with the Collectivité of Saint-Martin aimed at strengthening air connectivity across the Eastern Caribbean.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne informed Cabinet of the agreement, which was signed on April 1, 2026, in Antigua. The initiative underscores a shared commitment between both territories to improve regional air transport links and expand travel opportunities.
Browne said enhanced connectivity is essential for advancing regional integration, supporting tourism growth, and increasing economic activity among Caribbean states. He noted that both Antigua and Barbuda and Saint-Martin are strategically positioned as key aviation hubs, and the partnership seeks to capitalize on that advantage.
The agreement establishes a framework for continued collaboration among stakeholders, including airport authorities, tourism agencies, and regional airlines. The goal is to develop more efficient, reliable, and accessible air services throughout the region.
While the Letter of Intent is not legally binding, Browne described it as a significant step toward strengthening bilateral relations and fostering long-term cooperation. The agreement was also signed by Louis Mussington, President of the Territorial Council of Saint-Martin.
Cabinet welcomed the move, noting its potential to drive sustainable tourism development, improve regional mobility, and stimulate economic growth.
The government says it will continue to pursue strategic partnerships aimed at reinforcing Antigua and Barbuda’s role as a leading travel and commerce hub in the Caribbean.
