The Antigua and Barbuda High Commission in London has welcomed the first group of nationals selected to participate in The King’s Foundation Building Craft Programme, hosting a reception in their honour.

The initiative, developed through collaboration between The King’s Foundation, the High Commission, and the Antigua and Barbuda Centre for Advanced Studies, is designed to equip participants with specialised skills in traditional and sustainable construction. Training will focus on areas such as heritage restoration, conservation, and climate-resilient building techniques.

Officials say the programme is expected to deliver long-term benefits to Antigua and Barbuda by strengthening local technical capacity, supporting the preservation of historic structures, and preparing a new generation of skilled professionals to contribute to national development.

High Commissioner Karen-Mae Hill encouraged participants to fully embrace the opportunity, noting that the experience extends beyond technical training.

“This is a unique opportunity for learning, sharing and development,” Hill said. “I urge you to approach it with discipline, openness and creativity, and to consider how these skills can benefit both your professional growth and the wider nation.”

Jeremy Cross, Director of International Engagement at The King’s Foundation, also welcomed the cohort, describing them as talented individuals poised to benefit from the programme’s immersive training environment.

“We are pleased to support their development in heritage building crafts and climate-resilient construction,” he said, adding that the programme will also facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices.

The High Commission acknowledged the contributions of Second Secretary Brent Scotland and Third Secretary Caleb Gardiner for their roles in coordinating the visit.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the High Commission say they remain committed to creating opportunities that enhance the skills of Antiguans and Barbudans through strategic partnerships aimed at advancing national development.
