The Antigua Public Utilities Authority says it is in the final phase of a key water infrastructure upgrade in the Point area, as work continues to improve the reliability of the island’s distribution network.
The project, being carried out by APUA’s Water Business Unit, involves the installation of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes along a section of Newgate Street, stretching from the site formerly known as Barnes Funeral Home to Cross Street.
This upgrade is part of APUA ongoing programme to modernise aging pipelines and reduce the frequency of service disruptions. HDPE pipes are known for their durability and resistance to leaks, making them a preferred choice for long-term infrastructure improvements.
As the project enters its final stage, motorists and road users are being advised to brace for temporary delays. Officials noted that some of the roadway may be temporarily inaccessible to vehicular traffic, and drivers are urged to proceed with caution when travelling through the affected area.
APUA has acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the works, particularly the impact on road surfaces, and has assured the public that it is working closely with the Ministry of Works to ensure proper restoration once the project is completed.
The authority has thanked residents and commuters for their patience and cooperation, emphasising that the upgrade will ultimately result in a more reliable and efficient water supply system for the capital.

APUA is always fixing something but yet we can’t get better results. We are tired of their names in the news, we need to see these results in our homes.
Infrastructure upgrades are important, but every time roads get opened up it takes a very long time before they are properly restored. I really hope this time the Ministry of Works follows through quickly so the area doesn’t remain damaged for months.
They need to hurry with that. It slowing up the flow of traffic
