Brazen Heist at Health Ministry: 30 Donated Laptops Vanish

A brazen break-in at the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs has resulted in the theft of 30 government-issued laptops, dealing a blow to ongoing efforts to modernize healthcare services in Antigua and Barbuda.

The incident occurred at the Ministry’s headquarters between Monday, April 13 and Tuesday, April 14, 2026. The stolen devices Dell Pro 16 PC16250 notebook computers were donated by the Pan American Health Organization to support improvements in patient record systems across community clinics.

Health officials say the loss is significant, warning that it could delay key upgrades intended to improve service delivery, particularly for vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and individuals living with chronic illnesses.

In a statement, the Ministry expressed “deep outrage and profound disappointment” over the theft, noting that the equipment was critical to strengthening frontline healthcare services. The matter has since been reported to the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, which has launched a full investigation.

Authorities are appealing to members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist in recovering the stolen items. They are also warning against the purchase or possession of the laptops, stressing that the devices remain the property of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and are not authorized for sale. Individuals found in possession of the stolen equipment could face legal consequences.

The Ministry has indicated that it is reviewing its security protocols in light of the incident, while reaffirming its commitment to advancing healthcare delivery despite the setback.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police.
