Ongoing infrastructure upgrades along Buckleys Line are expected to bring more reliable water service to residents, as crews work overnight to install a new pipeline in the area.
The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) confirmed that its Water Business Unit will be carrying out night works to connect a 10-inch high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipeline, replacing an older line that has been prone to frequent breaks.
Officials say testing and commissioning of the new pipeline are expected to begin today, marking a key step toward improving the resilience of the water distribution system.
The upgraded line is designed to better withstand pressure and reduce the likelihood of recurring disruptions, which have affected customers along the Buckleys corridor in the past. Once fully operational, the new infrastructure is expected to deliver more consistent service and fewer outages.
Motorists travelling through the area are being urged to proceed with caution, as work crews remain active and a temporary bypass route has been implemented to manage traffic flow.
APUA has thanked the public for its patience, noting that while the works may cause some short-term inconvenience, they are necessary to ensure long-term improvements in water reliability.

Every time we hear about pipeline replacements we expect improvements, but sometimes the results take a long time to show. I really hope this project brings real change for residents in the area.
Hopefully projects like this continue across other parts of the island that also experience frequent pipeline breaks. Reliable infrastructure should be consistent everywhere, not just in selected areas.
I look forward to that
