Voter ID cards are being renewed at a vigorous pace in this election season

With the April 30 general election fast approaching, demand for replacement voter identification cards across Antigua and Barbuda has climbed sharply, according to the latest report from the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC).

The cumulative report up to April 16, 2026, shows a steady and widespread uptick in applications across all 17 constituencies, reflecting heightened voter readiness and engagement in the lead-up to the polls.

ABEC’s data indicates that constituencies such as St. Peter and All Saints West are among the most advanced in processing applications, recording completion rates of 88 percent and 66 percent respectively. St. Mary’s South also stands out with a 65 percent completion rate, suggesting strong voter participation in those areas.

In more densely populated constituencies, including St. John’s Rural West and St. John’s Rural East, application volumes remain high, with totals surpassing 2,500 and 2,300 respectively. These figures underscore the scale of administrative activity required to ensure voters are properly equipped ahead of Election Day.

Overall, the report shows that more than 29,000 applications have been processed across various categories, with significant weekly spikes observed throughout February and March.

Despite the progress, several constituencies remain just over halfway complete, including St. John’s City West, St. John’s City South, and St. Mary’s North, each hovering in the mid-to-high 50 percent range.

The data suggests that while the majority of voters are taking steps to regularize their documentation, continued efforts will be needed in the final weeks to ensure full coverage.

ABEC has repeatedly urged electors to collect or replace their voter ID cards promptly, warning that failure to do so could result in delays or complications at polling stations on Election Day.

With Nomination Day already behind and the campaign season intensifying, the surge in voter ID activity signals a high level of public interest in what is shaping up to be a closely watched general election.
