As Antigua and Barbuda prepares for its general election, the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) is shedding light on the individuals who will be responsible for managing the voting process on election day.
In a detailed breakdown, the Commission outlined the roles of key election workers, emphasizing their responsibility to operate in a fair and impartial manner.
At the top of the structure is the Returning Officer, who oversees all polling stations within a constituency. This official is responsible for supervising the process and ensuring that election laws are upheld.
On the ground, each polling station is managed by a Presiding Officer, who is in charge of issuing ballots and guiding voters through the voting process. Presiding Officers also assist individuals who may need help casting their vote, including persons with disabilities.
Supporting them are Poll Clerks, who handle administrative duties and assist in maintaining the flow of voters, and Information Clerks, who serve as the first point of contact, answering questions and directing electors.
ABEC says every officer is required to carry out their duties under oath and with strict neutrality.
The Commission noted that the efficiency and credibility of the election depend heavily on the professionalism and conduct of these workers.
With thousands expected to participate in the April 30 vote, ABEC says its trained personnel will be critical in ensuring that the process remains orderly, transparent, and accessible to all.
