Only Registered Voters with ID Cards Will Be Allowed to Vote, ABEC Warns

25 April 2026 - 08:59

The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) is reminding the public that only properly registered electors with valid identification will be allowed to vote in the upcoming general election.

In its latest voter guidance, ABEC made it clear that eligibility hinges on one key factor: being listed on the official Register of Electors.

“This means that your name must appear on a Register for Elections,” the Commission stated, emphasizing that registration is non-negotiable.

In addition to being registered, voters must also present their electoral identification card at the polling station. Without it, they will not be permitted to cast a ballot.

All voting must be done in person at the polling station assigned to each elector.

However, exceptions apply to certain categories of individuals. Members of the Royal Police Force, the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force, and election officials working on election day may be allowed to vote by proxy, provided they apply and follow the required procedures.

ABEC explained that these individuals must designate someone within Antigua and Barbuda to vote on their behalf under established regulations.

The Commission is urging voters to double-check their status and ensure they have all necessary documentation well before election day to avoid being turned away.
