First Cabinet Meeting Convened on Wednesday

Prime Minister Gaston Browne used the first Cabinet meeting of the Government’s new term on Wednesday to send a clear message to ministers: the administration must deliver results, remain united, and stay connected to the people.

Speaking to ministers and Ministers of State, Browne said the Government’s renewed mandate from the electorate comes with heightened expectations and an obligation to improve the daily lives of citizens and residents across Antigua and Barbuda.

The Prime Minister outlined several priority areas for the administration, including road rehabilitation, improving water distribution, expanding housing development, strengthening healthcare and education, and upgrading public infrastructure.

“The people are looking for results,” Browne told Cabinet members. “We must work with purpose, intensity and discipline to ensure that we continue improving the living standards of our people.”

The meeting set the tone for what appears to be a more performance-driven approach during the Government’s new term, with Browne making it clear that inefficiency and underperformance within ministries would not be accepted.

He urged ministers to demonstrate strong leadership and maintain an active presence within their constituencies and communities, while also ensuring consistent communication with the public.

Browne also emphasized humility and accessibility, encouraging elected officials to remain grounded and connected to ordinary citizens despite the demands of office.

Senior members of the administration echoed similar sentiments during the discussions, encouraging younger ministers and parliamentarians to continue developing their leadership and governance skills while keeping public service at the center of their work.

Unity within the governing team was another major theme of the meeting. Browne cautioned against internal division and individualism, stressing that the Government’s success has historically depended on collective leadership and a shared vision for national development.

Cabinet members also discussed plans to increase public engagement through additional community outreach programmes, constituency meetings and town hall sessions aimed at strengthening participatory governance.

The Prime Minister additionally encouraged members of the administration to pay closer attention to their health and well-being, noting that the demands of public office require sustained energy and focus.

The meeting ended with Cabinet members reaffirming their commitment to work collaboratively in advancing the Government’s development agenda and delivering meaningful progress for the people of Antigua and Barbuda.
